Two weeks in Altea and now Göteborg feels far too grey
We came home to Göteborg on the 7th of September after two weeks in Altea, and something is different. It is not the weather, we are used to the weather. It is that for the first time my wife and I said the same thing in the car from Landvetter: why are we going to wait until pension.
I am 55, IT project manager, she is a teacher, both of us can work partly from a distance from next year. The plan was always to buy something in the south when we stop working, ten years from now. In Altea we stayed in the old town, the white part with the stairs, and on the third day we already walked past the houses like we were choosing, not looking.
So the plan moved. Not ten years, maybe two. I read https://alegria-realestate.com/ on the tram to work now instead of the news, Altea and Albir only, and there is a list on the fridge with 14 addresses, my wife added the fourteenth yesterday, a townhouse near the church square. The budget we have makes sense for a townhouse, not a villa with pool, and to be fair we do not want the pool, we want the stairs and the neighbours.
What we are figuring out is the practical side of living there from November to March with work. Fiber internet in the old town, does it exist in the older houses or only in the new part down at the beach? And the heating, the Spanish houses have no real heating I read, how do people in Altea solve the January evenings, is it the split air conditioner or something else? We will come again in February to feel the cold ourselves, that is decided.
